New Verbier–Savoleyres Ski Lift: First Phase Opens Winter 2025

Exciting changes are coming to the Verbier & La Tzoumaz ski area! A brand-new ski lift is under construction, set to enhance access between Verbier and the Savoleyres sector significantly. Built in two phases, this state-of-the-art télémixte (hybrid lift) will combine the comfort of gondolas with the speed of chairlifts. The first phase is set to open just in time for the 2025/2026 winter season.

A Major Upgrade for the Verbier 4 Vallées Area

The new lift will replace the aging Savoleyres cable car and Sud ski lift, which date back to the 1970s. In their place comes a modern, energy-efficient hybrid ski lift connecting Les Esserts (1,700 m) to the summit of Savoleyres (2,200 m), with a key mid-station stop at Les Planards, where the Le Sud Ski lift currently begins.

This is a significant step in enhancing the skier and visitor experience in the 4 Vallées area, particularly for those staying in La Tzoumaz. The lift is designed to operate year-round, making it ideal not only for skiers in winter but also for hikers, mountain bikers, and families during the summer months. Making the return of skiing in the 4 Valleys easier for residents and tourists staying in La Tzoumaz.

Opening Timeline: What to Expect

  • Winter 2025: The first phase, Les Planards to Savoleyres, will open, dramatically improving access to the summit from the mid-mountain area.

  • Winter 2026: The second and final phase will connect Les Esserts to Les Planards, completing the entire lift system from Verbier to Savoleyres.

The whole journey will take just over 11 minutes (6.5 minutes from Les Esserts to Planards, and 5.3 minutes to Savoleyres), offering breathtaking views along the way.

Designed for Comfort and Accessibility

Unlike older lift models, the new télémixte system uses 10-seater gondolas and 6-seater chairs, giving visitors the choice between enclosed comfort or open-air speed. Features include:

  • Level boarding for easy access with skis, strollers, or bikes

  • Year-round operation for summer and winter tourism

  • Family- and mobility-friendly infrastructure

  • Direct piste connection from Les Ruinettes to the new base station at Les Esserts

A new ski piste will also be created from Le Carrefour to Les Esserts, allowing skiers to connect more efficiently from the primary Verbier sector. Environmental concerns are being carefully addressed with the piste running through a partially underground tunnel before continuing through forested areas.

A Strategic Investment in the Region

Téléverbier is leading the project in partnership with Banque Piguet Galland, which is supporting the lift as an exclusive sponsor. Together, they are investing in the long-term future of the 4 Valleys mountain tourism, making it more sustainable, modern, and accessible for the next generation of adventurers.

Why It Matters for Guests of La Tzoumaz

As the lift improves access between Verbier and Savoleyres, guests staying in La Tzoumaz, a hidden gem on the quieter side of the mountain, will benefit from faster, smoother connections to Verbier’s main ski area and beyond. It’s an exciting time for owners, renters, and tourists alike.
