In the time frame of 1928, the summer and winter games we hosted in the same year. Amsterdam, The Netherlands held the summer games but were incapable to organise the winter games due to a lack of snow and mountains. The Olympic committee then decided to move the winter games for the first time to St. Moritz, Switzerland. After World War II, in 1948 the olympic games returned once again in St. Moritz
In 2020 the Winter Youth Olympic and their committee will be hosted in Lausanne. The following year Switzerland will hold the Winter Universiade (student Olympic games) in Luzern. This will be a good preparation for official Olympic games in 2026.
